Gabbeh carpet
Code: 2209019AProduct detailed description
A gabbeh is a hand-woven rug traditionally made by the nomadic people of southern Iran. Gabbeh rugs are made from hand-spun wool that is dyed with plant pigments, and the patterns are created by tying knots on a rectangular warp. The word gabbeh means rough, natural, or untreated, and gabbehs are thicker than other Persian rugs. Because Iranian manufacturers were among the few to retain the traditional technology of dyeing with natural pigments, these carpets became very popular in the Western world, especially in the second half of the twentieth century. This rug features diagonal stripes of different colours and sticks to pure geometric ornamentation in lieu of the animal motifs typical of gabbehs. The rug is in good condition.
