Born in Bologna in 1941, Piretti studied at the Instituto Statale d'Arte before working as an interior designer for Anonima Castelli. Over twelve years with Castelli, he developed countless breakthrough furniture designs, primarily in the field of seating furniture. Later he collaborated with Emilio Ambasz on more award-winning designs. His work has been globally honored and exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

A desk chair DSC 106 that was designed in 1965 by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli. The history of the Italian company Castelli dates from 1877 when Ettore Castelli founded a small workshop in Bologna, it was later in 1939 renamed Anonima Castelli and is best known for its Plia Chair. The stackable chair DSC 106 has aluminium structure with the original upholstering with dark blue fabric. The chairs are left in a very good original condition, you can see some traces of rust in the details of the aluminium frame.
