Karel Koželka a Antonín Kropáček

(1909 - 1992)

This couple of not very well known architects tried to keep, albeit a limited and politically pressured, contact with Western design after World War II. Their creation combines influences of functionalism, historism and organic modernism. During the German occupation in WWII, they founded Czech artistic workshops, where the modern frniture was produced even at that time. Their most known chair design also won a Silver medal at the Milan Triennale in 1946.

A coffee table designed by the Czech designers Antonín Kropáček and Karel Koželka for České umělecké dílny in 1944. The table, together with a matching armchair, was two years later awarded with the silver medal at the Triennale in Milan.
The table was produced in light and dark colour options. Here we offer the light option manufactured in the national enterprise Interier Praha. The table was made of solid wood, the circular frame for the round glass top was made of beech bentwood. The wood is stained in a light shade. The table has been completely renovated in our workshop.
