Antonín Hepnar

(* 1932)

Antonín Hepnar is an artist, designer, craftsman and master wood-turner. He completed his studies at the high school of arts, architecture and design in Prague in 1953. From that time on he focused on the creation of both artistic and utilitarian wooden objects. He creates bowls, candlesticks, lamps, decorative items, sculptures, and also during the seventies and eighties he participated in the creation of several interior realizations, such as that of Hotel Praha or the remodeling of the church interior church for the new liturgy in Ledeč Sázavou (1970). He still works in his studio in Čakovičky near Prague.

Amazing floor lamp designed and made by Czech designer Antonín Hepnar, who works with the technique of woodturning and usually makes only five pieces of each design. This wooden lamp with a white paint is shaped as a half of a cube with three sources of light on each side. The design is a sophisticated play of edges and round parts, which stand out especially when the lamp is swiched on. It makes a striking piece in any interior. The surface is scratched on some places, see pictures. The lamp is designed for three bulbs with E27 socket, 230V/60W.
