Josef Hůrka

(1920 - 1993)

Czech industrial artist Josef Hurka worked initially as electric appliances designer for NAPAKO cooperative. Napako later discontinued this production, and hence Hurka had to refocus on lighting design. During his work there, the cooperative obtained various awards for his lamp designs. He was an ardent admirer of Czechoslovak functionalism and thus his designs smoothly success it. He designed many household lights for the cooperative’s serial production. For his lights, he emphasized both distinctive design as well as functionality.
