A glass pawn-shaped lamp designed by a Czech designer Ivan Jakeš. It is a sibling of the more famous Bishop lamp. Ivan Jakeš worked many years for a national enterprise Osvětlovací sklo (meaning simply Lighting factory) in Valašské Meziříčí. He produced hundreds of designs while working for this company, but his chess pieces designed in 1970 are probably his most famous works. They are usually made in classic white colour, but they were also produced in many bright colours and exported abroad. This colourful version is quite unique as it is made of white glass with stains made by dissolving pieces of colourful glass. The lamp is made of two layers of opaque glass, when lit the middle part glows with pleasantly warm light. The lamp is fully functional, in a good original condition.
