A fiberglass chair considered to be an icon of Czech design during socialis era was designed by a Czech designer Miroslav Navrátil for the company Vertex in 1959. The company Vertex developed the fibreglass material of the same name that, sealed in artificial resin, reinforces the seat and allowes its innovative shape. Martin Navrátil worked in the design studio Vývoj průmyslového nábytku (Industrial Furniture Development) and as a designer he could use newly developed materials and technologies. The fiberglass seats are notoriously known because they were used in the famous Tatra T3 tram which still operates today. The simple modernist design in bright pastel colour is a fine example of so called 'Brussels style' - a famous period in Czech design that emerged after WW2 and got its name after the success of the Czech pavilion at 1958 EXPO exhibition in Brussels. A metal base has been renovated, the fiberglass seat is in the original condition.
