Garden Egg Chair
Code: 2601000Product detailed description
Peter Ghyczy, a German designer with Hungarian origins, designed this chair in 1968. Originaly named NG1, today known as the Garden Egg Chair, in German speaking coutries as Seftenberger Ei, it is one of the first chairs made of polyurethane plastic material. The egg shell can withstand any environment and climate. The chair was designed in a design period known as Atomic Age which introduced typical futuristic aesthetic as a result of society being dominated by the idea of nuclear war. While the chair was designed and first pieces were made in West Germany due to lower expenses the production was moved to East Germany and the Garden Egg became an icon of the East Germany design. In 2008 Ghyczy redesigned the Egg Chair and launched a new series.
