Porcelain set by Tapio Wirkkala
Code: 2503004Product detailed description
A beautiful set of porcelain tableware designed by the legendary Finnish designer and sculptor Tapio Wirkkala for the German company Rosenthal. Wirkkala was a leading figure in the new applied arts, designing, for example, the bottles of the famous Finlandia and Koskenkorva vodkas and the 1955 bank notes for the Bank of Finland. His Ultima Thule tableware set for the Finnish brand Littala is iconic. Wirkkala's artistic range was very broad, he worked with wood, glass, porcelain, but also plastic, and he liked to take inspiration from various natural forms.
The tableware has round lines and is decorated with a fine striped pattern. Together the set consists of twenty-one pieces - a tall teapot with lid, a larger bowl with lid, a larger bowl without lid, a gravy boat, a milk jug, a sugar bowl without lid, six small bowls and nine cups.
The crockery is in excellent original condition with no visible flaws, only two of the cups have a slightly bumped rim.
