This round TON chair is made of a dark brown stained beech plywood. The cut-out backrest features a beautiful woodcut and the circular seat is upholstered in light green fabric. The chair has four thin chrome-plated steel legs.
It belongs to the modern TONSTER collection, designed by Tom Kelley for the company TON in the 1990s, and is a variation on the simple, modern and timeless designs for which the company is famous.
TON was the first company to use wood-hand-bending technology in 1861. This technology involves a lengthy production process in which the wood is stored at a specific humidity level. After drying, the wood is steamed in special vats for several hours and then placed in a mould to be shaped into a particular form.
The chair is in original condition; the upholstery is well preserved with only slight scratches. The wooden varnish is scuffed at the edges.
